Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

These are increasingly terrifying times, especially to people considered on the margins or without the political clout to enforce their rights. So here are two important quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. that help me keep going forward:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

And:

With this faith, we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith, we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith, we will be able to work together, to pray together, to struggle together, to go to jail together, to stand up for freedom together, knowing that we will be free one day.

Most Americans honor Dr. King each year on the third Monday in January, but his message and legacy are essential to us every day of the year.
