Author Madeleine L’Engle’s birthday is Nov. 29^th. She was a vibrant writer and a strong person of faith, seen in both her fiction and nonfiction. A Wrinkle in Time and the rest of her science fiction books affirm children, their willingness to care, learn, and risk their lives for one another.

Her nonfiction gives even more to ponder. Those books include stories of their family summers living in beautiful upper New York state, exploring life’s mysteries together. Reading some of them showed me where she got the idea of the family’s “star-watching rock” (a real place at their summer home), and allowed me to imagine where the amazing image of “Isosceles,” the angel, came from.

Madeleine L’Engle’s faith shone through, whatever her genre and topic. And it all came down to awe and praise to God. What an amazing flesh-and-blood saint!
